DUI CASES OUR LAWYER HANDLES IN VENTURA, CA

In Ventura, our DUI defense team at Costen Ruiz Law is an expert at handling a wide range of DUI cases. No matter your charge, we have the experience and knowledge to help you navigate the legal process.

First-Time DUI Offenses
Being arrested for DUI for the first time can be scary. California has strict laws, and even a first-time offense can result in severe penalties, such as fines, license suspension, and even jail time. Our lawyers can lower charges, reduce penalties, or dismiss your case.

Multiple DUI Convictions
Repeat DUI offenders face far more severe penalties. If you have multiple DUI convictions, you may face longer license suspensions, higher fines, and extended jail time. Our skilled DUI lawyers will explore all possible defenses to help you win.

Felony DUI Charges
A DUI can be charged as a felony in California under certain circumstances, such as multiple prior offenses or causing damage to another person. Felony DUIs result in the harshest penalties, including lengthy prison sentences and large fines. Our Ventura DUI lawyers will fight these charges with a strong defense.

Underage DUI cases
California has a zero-tolerance policy toward underage drivers who are caught with alcohol in their systems. If you or a loved one is facing underage DUI charges, our attorneys can assist by providing a strong legal defense and ensuring that the case is handled correctly to minimize long-term consequences.

DUI Involving Drugs or Prescription Medication
Driving under the influence is not restricted to alcohol. Many people are charged with DUI after driving while under the influence of drugs or prescription medications. Blood tests and expert testimony complicate these cases. Our Ventura DUI attorneys have experience challenging these cases and obtaining favorable results for our clients.

More About Our Dui Lawyer In Ventura, CA

Can I Still Be Charged With DUI If My Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) Is Below 0.08%?

Yes, you can still be charged with DUI in Ventura even if your blood alcohol concentration is less than 0.08%. California law allows officers to arrest drivers for impaired driving if they believe their ability to operate the vehicle is jeopardized, regardless of their BAC level. Also, you could be charged with a crime if you have any traceable amount of alcohol in your system and are younger than 21.

What Happens If I Refuse A Field Sobriety Test?

Field sobriety tests are voluntary in California, so you can refuse to take them. However, keep in mind that refusing may result in your arrest if the officer suspects you are drunk. Refusing field sobriety tests can also be used against you in court, but it may limit the evidence available to demonstrate impairment.

Can I Get My DUI Charge Reduced To A Lesser Offense?

In some cases, a skilled DUI attorney may be able to negotiate with the prosecution to reduce your DUI charge to a lesser offense, such as reckless driving ("wet reckless"). This reduction may result in lighter penalties, such as lower fines and shorter or no jail time. Costen Ruiz Law will investigate all ways to reduce your charges based on your case.
